Phoenix Basketball Goes Star Wars

The NBA has officially blown my mind. On April 11, the Phoenix Suns will host Star Wars: The Clone Wars night.

Everyone is encouraged to come to the game in Star Wars costumes and participate in a costume contest. Their Gorilla mascot will fight a lightsaber duel. The cheerleaders will be dressed as Princess Leia, and they’re giving away one of the shirts shown above. WOW!

They are letting fans decide which shirt to give away. You can vote by emailing or by sending a tweet to @PhoenixSuns.

This sounds really fun!

In partnership with Lucasfilm, the Suns will offer a special discounted ticket package that includes an exclusive Phoenix Suns/Star Wars t-shirt (see below) and photo opportunities with classic Star Wars characters. The unique night will also feature in-game Star Wars entertainment, including a “Star Wars on Planet Orange” player introduction video, Suns Dancers in Princess Leia costumes, a Gorilla lightsaber duel and a sneak peek at an upcoming episode of the hit Cartoon Network series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Additionally, all fans attending the game are encouraged to dress like their favorite Star Wars characters for a chance to win official Star Wars merchandise. No masks or weapons will be allowed inside US Airways Center.

“This is going to be a fun night for our fans of all ages, from those who remember watching the original Star Wars film in the theaters in 1977 to those young fans who are growing up with The Clone Wars animated series today,” said Jeramie McPeek, Suns Vice President of Digital. “We are very proud to be partnering with such a strong brand, known around the world and throughout the galaxy. The Force is strong on Planet Orange.”
