Crazy Costumes = Unique Costumes

weird-cool-costume.jpg

Don’t you hate it when you shop for the perfect costume only to show up at the party and come face to face with three more of the same? Here are some pictures of crazy costumes that, should you choose to duplicate it, will probably ensure your uniqueness at the next Halloween gig:

Cow Costume is Udderly Offensive

Cow CostumeUNION, N.J. — A high school student has been suspended for wearing a cow costume at his school pep rally. It’s a pretty severe punishment, and his fellow students are having a cow.

The school’s mascot is the “Fighting Farmers” and every year students dress in farmer and animal themes for the annual pep rally.

The school claims the issue was not the cow costume, but the offensive jokes involving the prosthetic udders “that continued throughout the day.”

Okay, hmm, it’s probably best that we don’t know the details. Looking at that cow costume, I can see how inappropriate jokes could be made.

Weird Science

igor-movie-poster.jpg

Coming to life in theaters this weekend (Friday, September 19th), the Tim Burton-esque animated horror comedy IGOR is just time to get us in the mood for Halloween!

Unfortunately for Igor, all men are not created evil. Always the evil scientist’s assistant, never the scientist, Igor (voiced by John Cusack) is about to shake up the world of weird science. Igor’s got ideas above his lowly “yes master” station…he wants to enter his own invention into the annual evil science fair!

Here’s a peek at Igor’s evil plan:

Tina Fey and the Sarah Palin Wig

Tina Fey

Sarah Palin

Tina Fey as Sarah PalinIt’s rather remarkable how former SNL member Tina Fey and VP nominee Sarah Palin look so much alike.

Last weekend, Saturday Night Live had a huge ratings boost as Tina Fey returned to her old stomping grounds to appear as Sarah Palin.

Today, the New York Times is running an interesting story about the custom wig worn by Fey for this sketch.

Sarah Palin Wig

Some interesting facts:

• The wig took 40-50 hours to make.
• SNL keeps a replica of Tina Fey’s skull on hand for making wigs.
• Required a team of wig makers, colorists and a pound of human hair.

Since the sketches aren’t approved until Wednesday night, it leaves very little time to get things ready for the Saturday show. According to Bettie Rogers, the show’s head of the hairstyling department, “The ladies who make the wigs work around the clock until Friday night, sometimes even late Saturday.”

Rogers describes Palin’s hairstyle as a “French twist with a ’60s bouffant kind of thing, and bangs. It’s darker at the nape of the neck, and shows transitions to a lot of different colors. We also have to go back and root it. We paint in darker colors right at the roots, to give it contrast.” [via NYT]

Wow, I had no idea how much work went into a wig for an SNL sketch. Bettie Rogers and her crew are true artists, it’s amazing.

Sarah Palin reportedly enjoyed the sketch, and even claims she once dressed as Tina Fey for Halloween. So far, no photos of her costume have surfaced, but I think it’s only a matter of time.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the SNL sketch of Tina Fey impersonating Sarah Palin. Enjoy!
