Watch the New Tron: Legacy Trailer!

by manny

Wow, this is so cool… the theatrical trailer for Tron: Legacy has just been released online! Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner return to reprise their roles in this long awaited sequel. I know movie trailers can be deceiving, but it really looks like Disney has hit this one out of the park. I can’t wait to see it!

Tron: Legacy will be released in theaters just before Christmas, 2010.

I’ve posted some official movie stills below, along with some Tron cosplay by fans. I’ll leave it to you to determine which is which. :)

Natalie Portman as the Black Swan Ballerina

by manny

natalie-portman-black-swan-costume

Here’s a look at Natalie Portman in costume as the ballerina Black Swan for the upcoming film with the same name. Black Swan opens the Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 1, 2010.

It’s a thriller involving the dark relationship between two competing dancers.

What a great photo! I’m not sure this is my kind of movie, but I hope it does well for Natalie Portman and director Darren Aronofsky.

Awesome Custom Green Lantern Costume

by manny

custom-green-lantern-costume-1

This very fine custom Green Lantern costume was posted online yesterday by both the amazing Ridd1e and the astounding gstqfashions.

Ridd1e made the mask and emblem, and Catherine, of gstqfashions, made the suit and the boots. So very nice!

The bodysuit is a combination of five different fabrics. The base is black stretch neoprene. The green parts are cotton lycra. Stretchy mesh and faux stretch leather add texture and interest to the black areas, while silver metallic spandex accents the chest and torso. The bodysuit has an invisible zipper in the back, so as to not breakup the bodysuit seam design.

The emblem attaches (and dis-attaches) via velcro. Do you know what that means? This suit is super easy to clean!

On a related note, due to some personal stuff that kept me busy, I missed posting about the Green Lantern movie costume that debuted last week. Honestly, I don’t have too much to say about it. I understand there are some haters who think the costume looks painted on, and yeah, I can see their point.

I guess I’ll wait for some finished footage before making up my mind about it. After all, his suit IS all glowy, and the use of CGI does seem appropriate for a live action film. I guess I’m in a “wait and see” mode for now….

Putting on the Wampa Costume

by manny

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about Jeremy Naylor’s incredible Star Wars Wampa costume.

He just posted a video of himself getting into the costume. It runs about 10 minutes — which is a bit long for a video, but super fast when you consider trying to get into that thing. Very interesting and impressive!

First Photo of Odin, Thor and Loki

by manny

thor-odin-loki

Along with the LA Times officially announcing that Marvel’s Thor and Captain America will be in 3D (surprise!), comes this new photo of Odin, Thor and Loki.

Their costumes look very… shiny, I guess. I spotted this over on ToplessRobot, and I like how he compares these costumes to The Chronicles of Riddick.

riddick29

Odin and Loki look like… well, they look about as Norse as Ronald McDonald.

LOL, that’s funny! I sure this movie does well, or the highly anticipated Avengers movie will be in big trouble.

Iron Man Mark V Motorcycle Suit

by manny

iron-motorcycle-suit-3

An Iron Man motorcycle suit? Impossible! And yet…

Universal Designs has done the impossible. The officially licensed IRON MAN Mark V Leather Motorcycle Suit is now a REALITY!

It’s basically a costume, right?

Make no mistake, this is not a costume. As a ‘replica’ of what IRON MAN ‘wears’ this motorcycle suit has been brought to life with real world function and use…all the while paying tribute to the IRON MAN suit as seen on the big screen in all it’s glory.

- CE APPROVED BODY ARMOR
- EXTREME FORM MOLDED LEATHER DETAILING
- PEARL RED & SILVER ALUMINUM METALLIC LEATHER
- LIGHT SENSITIVE REFLECTIVE ACCENTS
- HEAVY DUTY STRETCH SPANDEX INSERTS
- BREATHABLE MESH CORDURA INSERTS
- REMOVABLE INTERIOR VEST
- GRADE A COWHIDE LEATHER

Wow, these guys aren’t messing around!

If superhero motorcycle suits are your thing, you can purchase this for about $1000 from Universal Designs.

Amazing Star Wars Wampa Costume

by manny

star-wars-wampa-costume-1

Check out this amazing Wampa costume from Empire Strikes Back! Absolutely incredible!

Wow, lately I’ve been getting the best submissions from super talented costumers. This Wampa costume was made by Jeremy Naylor, who was kind enough to let me know that he finally finished this costume.

You can read about this costume on MyWampa.com. Jeremy also has a lot of in-progress photos on his Flickr account.

In his email, Jeremy said he plans on taking this costume to Star Wars Celebration V coming up next month in Orlando. We wish you the very best, Sir! Thanks so much for sending this in!

Here are some complete costume pics with me in it. Yesterday, I put the complete costume on for the first time. Mobility of the body is pretty easy though the arms don’t have the full range of motion I had hoped for. They are heavy and even with the weight being distributed through the backpack, you still have to make a dead lift to raise them while hoping to keep your balance.

The head on the body looks better than I thought it would, there was a moment when I thought it looked too small. But being my own worst critic, I still think the arms are too thick. But can’t change that now. But there is one big benefit of having the arms this size. As you can see below, I can slip my arms out of the “pits” and be able to adjust the head, or take a drink. My last costume I had to remove the arms all together to do this, now they stay in place and keep the illusion alive. This is also great when i want to take a break from holding them, I can just rest my arms inside.

Dog in AT-AT Costume Recreates AT-AT Dog Video

by manny

Okay, that might be the most confusing title I’ve ever written. Sometimes, I can barely keep up with the Awesome of the Internet.

A few days ago, a clever AT-AT video hit the web. Made by Patrick Boivin, it featured an animated Star Wars AT-AT which ran around just like a dog. Very cute and amazing. I wanted to post it here, but since it really wasn’t costume related, I never mentioned it.

But now the circle is complete. A clever fellow named Robert, who made this famous AT-AT dog costume last year, has recreated the animated AT-AT video with his dog!

A dog pretending to be an AT-AT pretending to be a dog? Yeah, my mind is blown.

Here is Robert’s video:

And here is the animated AT-AT video. How awesome is this? Wow. Big thanks to Sara for the tip!

Casual Friday on the Death Star

by manny

star-wars-fashion-3

Check out these humorous, yet very cool drawings of Darth Vader and the gang relaxing in their non-uniform attire. It really does look like Casual Friday on the Death Star, lol.

These illustrations are part of a series by artist John Woo, called “He Wears It.” Woo stylishly imagines Star Wars characters wearing the fashion of today’s popular designers.

Too bad that Yoda and the Emperor aren’t included. I wonder what they would wear?
