Amazing Avatar: The Last Airbender Cosplay

Check out this incredible Avatar: The Last Airbender cosplay by Catherine L. Jones and friends. So amazing!

Catherine is the owner of GSTQ Fashions. She does commission work and can create any costume that you want! I’ve written about her in the past, her custom work is amazing.

She put these costumes together for DragonCon last fall, and did a few photo shoots with Bryan Humphrey and Steven Joerger.

I think what kills me about Catherine’s Aang costume is that she actually shaved her head. Now that is some dedicated cosplay! I didn’t even recognize her. Does she look like Aang to you?

Great job, Catherine! Thanks so much for your email.

I’m SO excited for this show, which will air in the spring of 2011. I’m loving the costumes and overall high production value. This will definitely be the show to watch! Psst… if you haven’t read the books, you are really missing out!

Squirrel Taxidermy Costumes?

Okay, this is pretty weird. Why would you dress dead squirrels in costume? Oh boy.

Yes, there’s a guy on Ebay selling a variety of action squirrels, thanks to the powers of taxidermy. The above photo, showing the squirrel with the Superman costume was apparently inspired by this Photoshopped image which went viral last year.

You can now buy Superman Squirrel, Squirrel in a Top, Squirrel Playing Piano, and much more.

Wouldn’t this make the perfect Christmas present?

Superheroes Allowed Back on Hollywood Blvd

Good news for the Hollywood superheroes! A judge has recently ruled that the costumed impersonators are allowed to hang out on Hollywood Boulevard and collect tips from tourists — as long as they do it nicely.

For the past several months, legal trouble has been brewing after the LA police started arrested people who were in costume. There’s been a big protest at City Hall, and now a judge has ordered the police to stop harrassment them. Yay!

The four street performers who sued had argued they were wrongly arrested and intimidated by the LAPD. U.S. District Judge Dean Pregerson ruled that the characters had a First Amendment and Fourth Amendment right to remain on the public sidewalk free from police persecution as long as they were not blocking the walkway or overzealously demanding change.

Awesome Pixar Desk Lamp Costume

Okay, I’m impressed. I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a Desk Lamp Costume before. Have you?

Very cool! It does look hard to move around in, though. And yeah, it would be even cooler if it lit up, but I’m just being nit picky.

What an original idea. Very well done!

Update: Thanks to JD and his infinite wisdom, it’s come to my attention this is the hopping Pixar mascot! Well I feel a little stupid, but I’m also even more amazed at this costume than before. Man, that is really cool.

Thanks for the comment, JD!

Penguins Dressed for Christmas

Aww, look at these adorable penguins dressed in Santa and reindeer costumes. These photos were recently taken at the Everland Zoo in South Korea.

I think they do this every year, the children love it. Something tells me that adults love it, too. Penguins are just so classy, aren’t they? Sigh…

Sad Grandmother Cheered Up by Superhero Cosplay

Here’s an incredible costume story… A French photographer named Sacha Goldberger wanted to cheer up his 91-year-old grandmother. She’s a Holocaust survivor, who was lonely and depressed.

So Sacha talked his grandmother into dressing up as a superhero for a funny and bizarre photo shoot. She had a lot of fun and it totally cheered her up!

Grandma reluctantly agreed, but once they got rolling, she couldn’t stop smiling.

Now she has a MySpace page and has many friends and followers. What an inspiration!

Initially, she did not understand why all these people wrote to congratulate her. Then, little by little, she realized that her story conveyed a message of hope and joy. In all those pictures, she posed with the utmost enthusiasm. Now, after the set, Goldberger shares that his grandmother has never shown even a trace of depression. Perhaps it’s because her story serves some sort of purpose. That through the warm words of newfound friends, she’s reminded of just how lucky she is to be alive.
