LumiGram: Clothes with Lights

by manny

LumiGram: Clothes with Lights

Check out these cool “light up” clothes! Using battery-powered fiber-optic technology, LumiGram has developed a line of clothing that help you “light up the night.”

A tiny battery provides a 12-hour charge, and the fabric is machine washable as long as you take the battery out first.

Pretty cool!

Vintage Star Wars Commericals

by manny

Gunaxin.com has an awesome collection of old Star Wars TV commericals. And even though some of these are poor quality, they are still great to watch.

I think my favorite is the crossover commerical featuring Colonel Sanders from KFC, the Pizza Hut girl, and the Chihuahua from Taco Bell as they team up to battle the evil droids.

Head on over to Gunaxin.com to view all 20 clips.

And here’s a BONUS clip. It’s not a commercial, but a rare featurette created during the filming of Return of the Jedi. And Carrie Fisher wears the metal bikini!

I like how they keep saying, Revenge of the Jedi, which was the film’s original title until George Lucas changed it at the last minute.

Babies in Disguise

by manny

Babies in Disguise

LOL, these babies are so cute – and hairy!

Swedish photographer Alexander Crispin took these photos. Apparently, he’s known for his humorous and “playful” artistic style.

Kids… they grow up so fast, don’t they?

Darth Jackson on Britain’s Got Talent

by manny

Meet Darth Jackson! By day he’s a postal worker, and by night he’s an undiscovered talent.

Here’s an awesome clip from Britain’s Got Talent. Darth Jackson does the Thriller dance with a team of stormtrooper backup dancers.

Too funny! Why is Simon so mean? Darth Jackson is my hero.

And once again, thanks to Bonniegrrl for the tip!

More Ren Faire Photos from ThatCostumeGirl

As promised, ThatCostumeGirl has posted a bunch of photos from her visit to the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival last weekend.

You can view all 32 pictures in her Photo Gallery.

She talks about the great food, music, dancing, performers and great Renaissance clothes for sale. Sounds like a wonderful time. Such great costumes! And I would love to have seen the comedy acrobat show.

Thanks for sharing, TCG!

Greece “Nun” too Thrilled with Costume Antics

by FunkyLady

naughty-nuns.jpg

Soccer fans have a reputation for fighting.

Soccer players on the other hand…well, let’s just say that there’s at least one group of football players who now have a reputation for being very cheeky.

Seventeen current and former members of the Bristol Hanham Athletic League were arrested last Saturday Night in the Greek town of Malia for wearing naughty nun costumes.

A police source quoted in a UPI article alleged that the players wore thongs under their skirts and were showing off their backsides. The official charges against the group were “causing a scandal by provocative acts and misrepresenting a uniform.”

The cheeky group, aged 18 to 65, spent 48 hours in a jail cell not fit for barely clad “nuns,” or anyone else. But on Monday morning, the court dropped the charges because no witnesses showed up to complain against them.

This wasn’t the first time the soccer players have engaged in costumed antics. In the past, they’ve dressed up as St. Trinian’s schoolgirls in Portugal and babies in Cyprus without encountering any trouble. But the town of Malia, located in a predominately Greek Orthodox country, was having “nun” of it!

Hair Bands from the 1980s

by manny

Hair Bands from the 1980s

LOL, look at these great pictures of wild hair bands from the ’80s! It’s so amazing. We….actually thought this was cool?

Can we all just agree that music and fashion in the ’70s were better than the ’80s? I think I’ll take disco and afros over this any day.

I’ll confess, I can’t name a single band in this list. If anyone wants to help out in the comments, that would be great.

Paper Fanime Costume

by FunkyLady

paperfanimecostume.jpg

Fanime Con just wrapped up on Memorial Day weekend (May 22 through May 25). It’s the largest anime convention in Northern California, with over 10,000 attendees who enjoy the world of Japanese animation and related arts.

Fanime offers live concerts, engaging panels, competitions, video screenings of anime and Asian cinema, plus guests of honor from around the world. Oh, and plenty of costumed characters, of course.

The Naruto Konan-inspired costume above is rather impressive as it’s made almost entirely of paper, from the wings and coat to the paper rose in the young lady’s hair. It’s a fitting tribute to the female ninja (Konan) of the Akatsuki who can create ninjutsu out of paper.

Well done!

ThatCostumeGirl Goes to Ren Faire

by manny

ThatCostumeGirl Goes to Renfaire

I’m totally jealous of ThatCostumeGirl. She got to go to a renaissance fair and hang out with Cedric from the Bedlam Bards.

Doesn’t she look great? She mentioned that she’ll have more photos of the fair, maybe even video, later this week.

If you haven’t heard of the Bedlam Bards before, you are really missing out! They play Renfolk Music, which is a “unique blend of Celtic, English, Scandinavian, and American folk music mixed in with period tunes from the Renaissance and Middle Ages.” Awesome stuff.

Here’s a clip of Cedrick singing a song called Hush Little Citizen.

Be sure to keep your eyes on ThatCostumeGirl’s blog for more renaissance costume goodness later this week!

SNL’s Greatest Superhero Moments

by manny

This is a FANTASTIC clip of Saturday Night Live back in 1979. In a tribute to superheroes, they have Bill Murray as Superman, Dan Akroyd as the Flash, and John Belushi steals the show as the Hulk. Man, SNL was really good back then.

Marvel.com has a great article on their blog, featuring SNL’s greatest and goofiest Marvel moments.

“Ant Man, huh? Where are your ants?”

I love it! SNL sure has given us good laughs over the years. Thanks to Marvel for bringing back some great memories!
