The Great Sausage Race
by manny
Ever been to a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game? If so, chances are you’ve seen The Great Sausage Race that occurs during the 7th inning stretch. This hilarious, and hugely popular event involves five people in sausage costumes racing around the field.
The five costumes are:
No. 1: Bratwurst.
No. 2: The Polish Sausage.
No. 3: The Italian Sausage.
No. 4: The Hot Dog.
No. 5: The Chorizo.
Baseball fan Jim Seimas recently had a chance to run this race, and he blogs about it HERE. Jim dressed as the Chorizo, which is newest, and most popular, of the sausages.

Here’s a Youtube clip of Jim’s race. Wow, running in a 7 ft. costume seems like it would be really hard to do.
Sausagegate Scandal
The Great Sausage Race is supposed to be safe and fun, but back in 2003 there was huge sausage scandal. Former Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman, Randall Simon, surprised the world by swinging his bat at the sausages as they ran by the dugout. Two of the sausages were knocked down.
How mean! That’s no way to treat a weiner.

Thanks for the pub, Matt. Very kind of you. By the way, the guy I beat was also a guest runner, musician Steve Poltz, the former boyfriend/touring partner of Jewel.

Was reminded of this incident last week … Saw Randall Simon playing for the Newark Bears in a minor
league game for the Newark Bears in the Atlantic League. Not even a good minor leahue player!
