Utah Krishnas: 7th Annual Himalayan Festival

The 7th Annual Himalayan Performing Arts Festival will be held Saturday June 7th, 2008 at the Krishna Temple one mile south of Spanish Fork, Utah. The festival offers a mix of folk dance, classical Indian dance, drama, music and beautiful world costumes.

Some of you may be surprised to learn about a Hindu temple existing in Utah’s heavily populated Mormon culture. But Utah is more diverse than you think!

The Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple is extremely popular among Utah residents, creating a community built upon mutual respect and appreciation.

Admission is only $2 for adults, $1 for children, and parking is free.

Throughout the festival, attendees can purchase hot meals of the regional cuisine.

There will be exhibits on the art, culture, dance styles, history, and cuisine of Himalayan India.

Arts, crafts, apparel, jewelry, CD’s, brass ware, books, deities, and wall hangings will sell in the temple gift store.

Here’s a breakdown of the festival events:

6:00 pm: Movie Screening: Himalayan Pilgrimage

6:00 pm: Outdoor stage: Nam Hatta Band, Chants of the Himalayas, Shatakshi Goyal, Bharta Natyam Dance, Genie and the Lamp

6:30 pm: Sashi Kalaskar on sitar, Ted Weiss tablas

6:50 pm: Divya Narayanan will perform the Mohiniyattom Dance

7:10 pm: Students of Bonnhi Dey perform Kathak Dance

7:20 pm: Anju Thapaliya and students, Folk Dances of Nepal

7:35 pm: Subalakshmi, Bharat Natyam Dance

8:10 pm: Divya Narayanam, Bharat Natyam Dance

8:30 pm: Kirtan & Bhajans
